Students to premiere new news show April 29

4/16/2014 —

Students in the COMM 282 – Television Field Production class will debut their student-produced broadcast, "Nittany News," at 12:15 p.m., April 29, in room 302. This event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Topics for the first newscast include tips on surviving finals week, student discounts in the area, a new major coming this fall, and office "cribs" (a lighthearted spin on MTV's popular "Cribs" show where the students take viewers inside a staff or professor's office).

This first production serves as the pilot for a new student-run newscast (COMM 283W) to be offered during the fall 2014 semester. A broadcast club is also planned to begin next fall for students who have an interest in television production.

The course and club are offered under the guidance of Liz Keptner, instructor in communication and director of the campus' Multimedia Innovation Center (MIC). Keptner joined Penn State Lehigh Valley in fall 2013 and has a 15-year career in broadcast including serving as anchor and reporter for CBS 3 (KYW- TV) in Philadelphia, WB-17 in Philadelphia, KTXL-40 in Sacramento, Ca., and WFMZ-69 in Allentown, Pa., among others. She also served as adjunct professor in business communications at Lehigh University, and is president of LK Media Consulting, Bethlehem, Pa.
