Panel discussion to focus on career success in business

Sigma Beta Delta business honors society will host a panel discussion led by Dawn Lennon of Big Picture Consulting and Sybil Stershic of Quality Service Marketing at 6 p.m. on April 1, in the auditorium (room 135) at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus in Center Valley. In addition to the panel discussion, Sigma Beta Delta will induct its newest student members into the organization.


The panel discussion, with its theme of "Stop Fooling Yourself," intends to raise and address the business student's most pressing career issues and concerns. Both Lennon and Stershic will give examples from their own experiences and involvement in the marketplace, and will discuss how students can position themselves for opportunity.


A career businesswoman, author, and founder/owner of Big Picture Consulting, Dawn Lennon has been helping individuals, solo practitioners, and small business owners achieve business and career success for more than a decade. Before leaving to start her practice, Lennon spent over twenty years as a senior manager at a Fortune 500 energy company in customer service. While in the thick of corporate things, she was an active entrepreneur, owning and operating a commercial horse breeding operation and an equine art gallery. She also spent five years providing practice management consulting to veterinarians. Lennon has seen first-hand what goes on behind the scenes in a big corporation and in small business. She has hired over 100 employees, seen the impact of downsizings on good people who lost jobs, overcame political barriers, and developed talented people. She built three entrepreneurial businesses from scratch, took the lumps that go with the territory, and built a loyal customer base. Lennon has a master's degree from Lehigh University and is author of Business Fitness: The Power to Succeed—Your Way and her blog, Business Fitness: Smart Moves for Career & Business Success. She has written numerous articles on achieving success in business and shares her insights on her Facebook Fan pages and Twitter.


Sybil F. Stershic, president of Quality Service Marketing, is a marketing and organizational adviser with more than 30 years of experience in helping service providers strengthen employee and customer relationships. She is the author of Taking Care of the People Who Matter Most: A Guide to Employee-Customer Care and the Quality Service Marketing blog. Stershic graduated with highest honors from Lehigh University and began her career in bank marketing. She founded Quality Service Marketing in 1988 specializing in internal marketing and communications and customized marketing training. Her clients span a variety of service industries including advertising, communications, financial services, food service, government, healthcare, higher education, professional associations, and social service organizations. She also teaches marketing workshops nationwide to corporate and nonprofit professionals. Active in leadership and professional development, Stershic is a former Chairman of the American Marketing Association (AMA). In addition to her continued involvement with AMA, she serves on the Advisory Council of the Global Facilitator Service Corps and is a member of BoardSource and the International Association of Facilitators.
