Godbey to receive lifetime achievement award

6/24/2014 —

Galen Godbey, instructor in business at Penn State Lehigh Valley, is the recipient of the Pennsylvania Council for international Education (PaCIE) W. Lamar Kopp Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions throughout their careers to global education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and will be presented at the PaCIE annual meeting at the Harrisburg Hilton on Oct. 17.

The award goes to those who demonstrate long-standing commitment, leadership and excellence in international education and is named for W. Lamar Kopp, another Penn Stater who was a leader in promoting the value and availability of international and intercultural learning.

During his career, Godbey has served PaCIE as conference chair, vice president, president, consultant, and board member. As executive director of the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges, he helped develop and sustain consortial overseas language and culture study programs. Godbey served associate to the President for Globalization at DeSales University, leading that institution’s internationalization effort for seven years. Those efforts materially increased the number of international and minority students; created formal programs in Peru, India, Romania, England and Mexico; and held conferences on global competence and the demands of the global creative economy. He secured four years of federal funding for that process, as well as several private sector grants. Godbey was the keynote speaker at a 2010 international conference funded by the World Bank on preparing people for the global creative economy held at Drexel University.
